Fishing

The Vitznau coat of arms includes a pike, which is no coincidence: schools of perch can frequently be seen from the shore around Vitznau. But numerous other fish species also feel at home around Vitznau, and it is not uncommon for impressive examples of fish to be caught from the shore. There are rights to free fishing on all publicly accessible shore sections of Vitznau and anyone can fish free of charge with a fishing rod, a float and a simple barbless hook with natural bait (e.g. worm, maggot, bread, corn). All other types of fishing are subject to licences and fees and require appropriate proof of expertise. The licence can be obtained from the tourist offices in Weggis and Vitznau. Fishing equipment and fishing trips can be booked through a local fishing shop.
